My Kid Traded Us Out of Famine

A famine year in the old countryside. Susie is five, and her family is running out of food. She comes across a Mystic Measure that lets her cross into the modern world and back. In the modern world she finds that plants treated as weeds where she lives, among them notoginseng and water celery, sell as medicine and food. She digs them, carries them across, and sells them at market, bringing back rice, flour and oil. At the market she meets Mr. Cole, who runs a herb shop and deals with her fairly. Once the family is fed she takes her relatives and then the rest of the village up the mountain to dig herbs, which they trade for grain. She also brings back high-yield seed and farming methods from the modern side and puts them to use on the village's dry land.
