Displaced War God

Kevin was the pilot who stopped the last swarm, flying the mech called Silver Scar. His whole squad died in that fight and he left the service afterward. Humanity had by then pulled back into a mobile fortress called the Ark. Four years later the bugs come again and Kevin applies to fly. His compatibility test comes back at 0 percent, which is read as proof he is useless in a machine. Marshal Sam, who runs intelligence, accuses him of treason. Kevin is sentenced to death and Silver Scar is sent to the scrapyard. The swarm breaks through the gates while the execution is being carried out. Silver Scar powers up on its own, gets to Kevin, and syncs with him at 100 percent. He takes the mech out against the swarm and pushes it back with the city watching.
