Rachel Sullivan's mother is seriously ill, and the only way Rachel can see to save her is a marriage alliance with the Grant family. She agrees to marry their son Charles. On the wedding day Charles does not appear. Rachel goes through the ceremony by herself, and by the next morning she is a joke to the whole city. Two years later she has built Mason & Co. from nothing and it is starting to be noticed. Charles comes back from abroad to run the Stellar Group, and the two of them run into each other. He has no idea who she is. They work together on business and begin to fall for each other. Charles has hated the arranged marriage from the start and means to divorce the wife he has never met, and he does not connect that wife with the woman he sees every day. Their families get in the way. Schemers set them up, and misunderstandings pile up. The two of them go to the registry office to file the divorce, and it is there that the identities come out.
