Alex works as a mechanic at the Apollo Club, a racing outfit that is close to bankruptcy and has just lost its last driver. Nobody there looks twice at him. With no one else left to enter, he says he will drive. Three years ago he was Alexander, champion three seasons running, until the man he trusted most took all of it from him. That was Cade, his adopted brother. The car was got at, his parents were in the wreck, and his name came off the records as though he had never raced. What he is given to drive is an old Nissan Silvia S13, and he reaches qualifying two minutes late. Waiting for him is Raven, who came up under Cade. He takes it on the final corner, and the win costs him. His entry rights are pulled, the car goes onto the black market, and people begin putting his old name to his face. Cade's men keep coming around the club.
