What Yasmine wanted was for her birth parents, Lucian and Clarisse, to treat her as their daughter. They had recognized her and taken her from the slum where she grew up to the Chen house, and then paid her no attention. With them and their son Grayson behind her she went back to school and scored 701 on the university entrance exam, the top mark in the country, after the Chens had told her a vocational school was the most she could hope for. At university her jewelry designs got noticed, she put on a solo show, and the designer Edward took an interest in her work. Around then the things Sylvia had done started coming out, and the Chen family went into decline.
