My Kindness Has a Price
Synopsis
Six years ago, Ryan Morton's father suffered a sudden stroke at Sunnyview Residence, but with no elevator in the building, he missed the critical window for treatment and passed away. Burdened with guilt, Ryan spent over a million of his own money to install a connecting corridor elevator for the residential building. Over the next six years, he covered all maintenance and repair costs, making life much easier for all the neighbors. However, his neighbor Karen Foster came to his door demanding money, claiming the elevator blocked sunlight and caused her eczema. After failing, she rallied the entire building to file a joint complaint, demanding three thousand yuan from him per household as compensation for lost daylight. Deeply disheartened, Ryan accepted the penalty from the enforcement team, had the elevator removed in accordance with the law, and moved out of the neighborhood with his mother. After the elevator was removed, the residence fell into dire straits: elderly residents in wheelchairs could no longer go downstairs, a pregnant woman miscarried after tripping on the stairs, and Karen Foster's husband suffered a stroke that was delayed in treatment, leaving him paralyzed. Filled with regret, the neighbors pooled together five hundred thousand yuan and begged Ryan to reinstall the elevator. Ryan gave them a quote of one million yuan and demanded a signed contract clearly defining rights and responsibilities — kindness should have sharp edges, and good intentions must have limits.

Episode 1 might make you go "what IS this lunatic" and bail. He's my favorite short-drama actor and even I hesitated. Please stay with it!! The acting is unreal, the way his eyes go, the way he smiles, each one gets me >_<
