The Weight of Her Betrayal

Benjamin tells Yvette that her husband Lucas married her for her money and is working through their daughter to squeeze more of it out of her. Yvette believes him. He was her first love and she has never held anything he says up to the light. She begins an affair with him while the marriage is still going. Later, when the girl's life is genuinely in danger, she reads it as one more piece of the extortion and stands by without lifting a hand. Lucas has been hiding who he is the whole time. He is a doctor whose work carries some weight, and he has been holding up Yvette's career and her family's company from behind without telling her about any of it. Benjamin came to her for the research Lucas is doing, and for whatever of her property he could get signed over. Yvette learns all of this after the damage is done, and she goes to Lucas to apologise.
