Famine's Reckoning

Jeremy Zachary is a small-time thug from the present day who wakes up in the body of a man from an earlier century with the same name. Nobody around him knows the swap happened. The man whose place he has taken gambled everything away and sold his younger sister to the Widow for a measure of grain, which left the whole household starving. So the first thing Jeremy gets is his family's contempt, for things he did not do and cannot explain. Then a Shock System activates: astonishing people converts into supplies he can use. He trades shocks for rice, hunts game to get food on the table, and puts on displays that leave the powerful people around him off balance. He wants his sister back, and beyond that he wants to feed the county and have the family look at him differently.
