Ivy Inkwood went to prison for a crime her stepsister committed. To get out she made an arrangement with Leo Blythe: one night with him in exchange for her release. She left prison pregnant, and the two married quickly. Once out, she went after the Inkwood family. The revenge got complicated because she began to have real feelings for Leo, and because the things she had kept quiet about herself started coming out, beginning with the fact that she paints, and paints well enough that people who see the work want to know who made it. Other skills followed. The Inkwoods schemed against her and Leo's mother worked to break the marriage up.
