Wife Material, Son Disposable

In the marquisate, a young wife's worth is measured by whose child she carries and by whom the household believes saved the heir. Lydia Celton ruined her health saving Adrien de Quincy and was left with a bad heart. Adrien believed Lysiane Launay had been the one who saved him and treated her accordingly. His grandmother, the dowager marchioness Marlène de Quincy, also favored Lysiane over Lydia. Lysiane and Lydia became pregnant at the same time. Adrien forced Lydia to give up her child, Marlène did not object, and Lydia left the house. Lysiane became the young marchioness. She moved the family's property out, turned on Adrien, and drove Marlène toward her end. In her last hours Marlène saw Lydia at her side and swore that in another life she would tell loyalty from betrayal. Marlène opened her eyes back at the time of the two pregnancies, with her grandson still trusting Lysiane. This time she protected Lydia's child and settled a large fortune on her. Adrien and Lysiane took this for a test of Lysiane, and Lysiane's lies ran on until they were exposed.
