When Clara Shaw was 19, her half-sister Hanna drugged her. She spent that night with Ethan Foster and became pregnant. The Shaw family threw her out, and she raised her daughter Lily on her own. Her father had ignored her since she was small, and her stepmother and Hanna had tormented her for years. She nearly drowned once. Ethan looked for her for six years and did not find her. Six years on, Clara comes back to Sanford because Lily has a heart condition that needs treatment, and she goes to work at the Foster Group. Ethan's mother learns that Lily is her granddaughter and holds a banquet for her. During it, Hanna shuts Lily inside an iron box over the swimming pool, and by the time the box is opened Lily is no longer in it.
