The Hands that Raised Me Killed My Dad

Qi Simin came into the port city alone looking for her missing brother, with no contacts and no money for the kind of information that gets sold there. On a wet night she found a man bleeding out in the street and kept him alive. He was Fu Yaoyang, who runs the Fu family. To buy what she needed she lifted his watch and traded it, and that put her name into a house where the succession is being settled with weapons. Yaoyang had her installed beside him as his secretary, which kept her under his eye and also kept her out of reach of the second master of the family, who is working against them both. Fighting the same man pulled the two of them from hostility into something else. Then Simin found out what Yaoyang is. His father was a police officer who died in the line of duty, and the man who took in the orphan was Fu Jialiang, his father's enemy, who raised him carefully for twenty years as an instrument of revenge and an heir for a criminal empire. The debt of being raised sits on him like a chain. When Jialiang drops the charitable face and takes Simin, Yaoyang comes apart and then turns.
