Love's Last Spell

Sue Bynn wants a married life with Evan Zach. She is the Sacred Maiden of Miao, and she gives up the village and the title to run away with him. His mother refuses to allow the marriage because Sue cannot have children. Over the next five years Evan cheats on her repeatedly in the hope of getting an heir for his family. He has his secretary, Shirley Scott, fake a pregnancy so that Sue will give up and leave. Sue finds out and tries to go. Evan and his mother hold her, and they make her perform a gu ritual, the one that reverses life and death, to save Shirley's life. It drains her, and her hair turns white in a single night. Her grandfather, the high priest of the Miao village, steps in to save her and pays for it himself. Evan is left believing that Sue is dead. On his wedding day Shirley's pregnancy is exposed as a fake. Evan gives away his fortune and travels to the Miao village to ask Sue's forgiveness. The gu that binds the two of them to each other is still alive. By then she has taken up the Sacred Maiden's duties and is working to bring the village out of poverty.
