In the Azure Cloud sect a son-in-law who has married into his wife's house is looked down on, and one whose own family has fallen is treated as worthless. That is Andrew's position. The sect knows him as a gambler who wastes his days. His father-in-law despises him, and after Andrew's family collapses her father arranges to cut him off from his wife, Serena.
