A foster sister is living in the palace as the Emperor's recovered daughter, under a name that belongs to Xia Yan. Xia Yan was the Empress's child and was taken out of the palace on the day she was born. The Emperor looked for her for seven years, and while he was looking the other girl stepped into the place. Xia Yan tears an imperial notice down off the wall and takes the post it offers. She becomes the youngest county magistrate in the country and works through the cases that come to her, several of them running back into the court itself. The Emperor starts hearing her name.
