Zero-Level God

Xiao Jin carries the bloodline of the primordial Golden Dragon, and to stay out of the hands of his own Xiao clan he passes himself off as a level-zero spirit beast, a tamer's reject worth nothing. One rainy night he comes across shadow beasts cornering the tamer Su Xueheng and drives them off. Xiao Wouji of the Xiao clan arrives with a talent reading of SSS that he did not earn, uses it to press Su Xueheng into a marriage agreement, and humiliates Xiao Jin in front of everyone. Su Xueheng thinks little of Xiao Jin but refuses Wouji anyway, and swears she will go to Zhongzhou and find out what a real talent looks like. The two of them travel together. At the final selection trials, demons from outside the realm break in on the contest. Xiao Jin drops the disguise and takes his dragon form in front of the assembled clans. What comes out with it is the truth about his mother's death, his own family's part in it, and the arrangement they made with the demons. He wakes a second divine beast, a phoenix, and Su Xueheng is standing there when he does.
