The Guardian of the Final Dungeon

Huang Pi, a yellow weasel spirit, took the guardian's post at Da Sheng on the word of the Heavenly Master and held it for a hundred years. Dungeons had opened into the world by then, and every country relied on a guardian to cut down what came out of them and hold its fortune steady. Da Sheng grew through that century while he put down what came through, one day after another. The record he built up made him envied. The court believed what was said against him and stripped him of the post. His hundred years were finished in any case, and he went through the tribulation waiting at the end of them and became a god. A neighbouring tribe was being overrun and came to ask for him. He set terms with them before he agreed, then took up the same work there. Da Sheng put a fox spirit in his place, and the fox asked payment for each job and left the calamities standing, so the creatures spread through the country while Huang Pi was elsewhere.
