The Auspicious Hour of Divorce

Lin Wan walked away from an enormous inheritance to marry the man she chose. What she got was a mother in law who runs the house and a husband who has never once contradicted his mother. His advice to his wife, every time, is to put up with it. When Lin Wan goes into labor, the mother in law produces a fortune reading about the correct hour for her grandson to be born and tells the doctors to wait. Lin Wan is kept in labor for four hours to hit the auspicious time. Her husband stands in the room and says nothing. She stops asking him and takes the consent form herself and signs her own name on it. After that she stops arranging her life around what the family wants, and the divorce papers are the next thing she puts her name to. The mother in law does not believe she will actually go, because Lin Wan gave up her family's money once already and has nowhere obvious to go back to.
