Guardians of the Secret Jewel

The Tompson family is the strongest house in the empire, and it has just located the younger sister who went missing years ago. Her name now is Eleanor Wilmer, and her three older brothers go in person to bring her home. She is already married. She is the daughter-in-law of the Smithson family, and her husband Ethan Smithson cannot use his legs. The household treats them both as a burden: the servants take orders about them, the meals come late, and Ethan's stepmother says what she likes at the table. Eleanor decides against announcing who her brothers are. She keeps her name to herself so Ethan can see for himself what the people around him actually are. With Ethan's father away, the stepmother and the younger brother work on the family's allies to have Ethan cut out of the inheritance, and their plans for the couple go past money. Eleanor's brothers find out what has been happening, bring men, and go to the Smithson matriarch.
