Scents and Sensibility: Two Fated Mates

William leads the pack and runs the company that employs Sophie, and for years he has found no one whose scent marks her as his fated mate. He drinks through nights and moves through women without result, until one night at a hotel bar he meets a scent that stops him. Sophie is that scent. She spends the night with him, then wakes before he does and leaves the room without waking him, taking nothing but forgetting a manuscript that belongs to her best friend Samantha. William wakes alone. He has no name, no face, only the memory of her scent and the weight of her in his arms. Searching for her, William finds the manuscript and the only name attached to it, Samantha's. Samantha sees the opening and takes it. She brews a potion that swaps her scent for Sophie's, moves into William's house, and lets him believe she is the one he spent the night with, working to be recognized as the pack's future Luna. Sophie says nothing, partly because she does not believe a match between them could hold, him her employer, her his employee, and partly because she has no idea what Samantha has done. William, misled by the scent on Samantha, treats her as his mate while working alongside Sophie without knowing what he is looking at. As Samantha settles deeper into his household and his trust, William starts noticing things that do not add up between the woman beside him and the memory he carries of that night.
