Revenge Returns

Dahlia Luke tries to take her younger brother Mario out of the village to get his rash treated. David Zouch, who owns the factory and effectively owns the village, stops them at the edge of it. His reasoning is that a contagious skin disease getting out would hurt the factory's output, so the pair are held where they are and forbidden to go. Around the same time their father Jack falls while working at height and wrecks his leg. The household has no earner now. David keeps stirring the villagers up against the family and the pressure does not let up, and Jack decides to end it. He prepares poison for himself. Mario drinks it instead and dies on the spot. Dahlia believes her father killed the boy rather than keep paying for his treatment, and she starts asking questions around the village to prove it. What she turns up is about her mother. Lily Lowe intends to marry David Zouch on the seventh day after Jack's death. Dahlia goes to her mother to demand an explanation, and Lily understands that a secret she has kept for half her life is about to come out.
