The Day I Disappear

Grace Nolan could see the date a person would die from the time she was small. As a child she said out loud when her grandfather, her father and her mother would go, and after that the household treated her as the one who had brought it about. Her three older brothers kept her at a distance and were hard on her, and she was not allowed to spend time with her younger sister. She grew up inside the house that way. On her twenty-second birthday a date appeared on her own palm. She spent what was left of the day with the people who had hurt her, putting right what she could and leaving them something good to remember.
