Veil of Steel: Her Blade Remembers

In the fifteenth year of the reign, the woman known as the god of war, Regina, rides north to reinforce the border and is ambushed by a spy. She goes over a cliff and loses her memory. A merchant pulls her out and gives her a new name, and to repay him she takes another woman's place in a marriage to Liu Shifei, the young general. On the wedding night he leaves her alone, and three cold years follow. Then Liu Shifei comes home with a noblewoman, Lin Mo, who is claiming to be Regina. The two of them accuse her of adultery and demand she give up her position. Close to death, her memory comes back. She threatens the Liu household into returning her dowry and her writ of divorce, and swears to find out who slaughtered the Mo family army. Crown Prince Cassius helps her; he passes for crippled and harmless and is nothing of the kind. They fix on the army supervisor Sun Zhen as the man who knows, and she searches his residence at night, where she finds proof that the Empress Dowager and the Prince of Liang plotted with Sun Zhen and with Liu Shifei's father to lead the Mo army into a trap and clear a path to the throne. At a palace banquet she exposes Lin Mo in front of the court and proves who she is. The Turkic tribes cross the border, and she takes command of the army with the Crown Prince beside her.
