True Feelings for Your Majesty

Li Xing is a young man from the present day who wakes up in the ancient court, where the only way to stay alive is to pass himself off as a eunuch. He is not one. The emperor, Mu Yao, is running the same kind of deception from the top: she is a woman who has been living as a man since taking the throne. What neither of them expects is that she can hear what Li Xing is thinking, including the running commentary he keeps up about everyone in the room, most of it unflattering and some of it about her. The court is in trouble in several directions at once, and Li Xing knows things about how the world works that nobody in the palace does. He starts feeding her solutions and she starts using them. Working the crises together, with her hearing everything he does not say out loud, changes what is between them.
