I'm Really Not an Immortal

Zhang Yi wants to keep cultivating on Yujing Mountain, and after twenty years he has climbed to the Heavenly Dao realm. His master Zhao Xuanyi has nothing left to teach him, so he tells Zhang Yi he has no spiritual root and sends him down the mountain. Zhang Yi believes it. At the foot of the mountain he finds the head of the Zhang family, Zhang Qingzhi, with a metal rod driven through his skull after an assassination attempt. Three healers have given up and his daughter Zhang Qingxue is in tears. Zhang Yi steps in and saves him. The healers say his cultivation is at the Da Luo Divine realm; he assumes they are talking nonsense. In thanks the Zhang family takes him to the Huayu Immortal Gate. There the Chaos Divine Pearl measures spiritual roots, and six golden lotuses is the most anyone has produced. Zhang Yi produces nine, the pearl bursts, and a tenth lotus forms. Marriage offers follow from several sects. Then he hears that a sect master has been poisoned, and he sets out to refine the Ninefold Golden Elixir, which draws on the forces of heaven and earth and can put flesh back on bone. Two other alchemists work alongside him and fail. Zhang Yi uses ginseng and a single drop of rootless water.
