The Child Changes Everything

Joseph and Julia built the company together and it did well. What they do not have is a child, and Joseph's brother has spent years counting on that. He works on the family from the inside, angling for the estate on the assumption that there will be no one else to leave it to. Joseph knows what his brother is doing and swallows it, because they are brothers and because his mother's house does not survive an open fight. Then Julia gets pregnant. Joseph stops absorbing the insults and starts answering them, laying out the schemes his brother has run and going after the parts of the business that were quietly moved. The fight is over the company and over Julia's safety at the same time, since a child on the way makes her the obstacle. Joseph secures the inheritance and puts the whole of it in his child's name.
