Careful, You're Dangerous

Sylvia comes back from overseas and finds the Shepherd family caught in a scheme their rivals set for them. She goes to Theo, a commander in Swallow City, and offers to become his secret lover in return for him pulling the family out of it. Her parents abandoned her when she was small. Yale Shepherd took her home and raised her like a princess, and she read her dependence on him as love. The Shepherds found out about it and sent her abroad. Theo has wanted her for years without saying so, and he has his own plans for winning her properly. She is kidnapped at one point, and what he does to get her back costs him. By degrees the way he handles her gets through, and she starts going back over what she felt for Yale.
