Rosalie's father sells her to Ethan, the future Alpha King, to settle the family's debt to him. She is told she is going as a maid. Ethan is known for his cruelty, and the real reason she is there is to bear him an heir. She falls in love with him anyway, and then learns that he means to kill her once the child is born. With Madalynn's help she fakes her death and gets away. Ethan works out, too late, that Rosalie is his mate, and goes looking for her. She has built a new life somewhere else by the time he finds her. He pulls her out of danger there and sets about winning her back a little at a time.
