The Bride Who Defied Destiny

The Ming family's heir, Wyatt Miller, is good-looking, rich and formidable in business, and he is also sick. The doctors have told the family he will not see twenty-six. So they fetch Claire Scott in from the countryside to marry him, an arranged bride brought in for luck. The city treats the match as a joke, the short-lived man and the country bumpkin, well suited to each other. Then the months pass and Wyatt does not die. He gets better, steadily, day by day. People say Claire has struck absurd good fortune, a girl from nowhere who married up into everything. Wyatt tells them otherwise. He says his wife saved his life, that she is a master of the old arts and a physician of the first rank, and that nobody is taking her from him.
