A Promise Weathered to Nothing

Oscar Eaton has been in love with Irene Thayer since he first saw her at university. She runs a company, and he gives up the future that was open to him to work there as her secretary so that she can reach her dream. One night Irene gets drunk and they sleep together. Afterwards she tries to send him away with money. He tells her he wants to stay with her. For the next four years he works as her secretary by day and sleeps with her at night. Then Aaron Paxton, Irene's first love, comes back from abroad. Oscar sees how much care she gives Aaron and understands that she never loved him. He resigns and joins an artificial intelligence project. Irene regrets what she did after he is gone.
