The River of No Return

Adam Rivers did three years in prison on a false charge. The testimony that put him there came from his fiancée, Savannah, who gave false evidence to protect Travis Dalton, her first love. The two of them had come together over a debt. Five years before, Adam's grandmother collapsed with a heart attack, Adam called around for help and got none, and Savannah was the only one who drove the old woman to the hospital. Adam went after Savannah to repay that, kept at it until she was won over, and they became a couple, then engaged. When Adam gets out, Savannah is still seeing Travis. Her false testimony was only the first move in a plan Travis has been running, and out of guilt she goes along with a marriage to Travis that exists only on paper. Adam is hurt again and again. He works out that Travis has been behind all of it, including what happened to his grandmother, and decides on revenge. He counts his debt to Savannah as paid and decides to leave, and Savannah does not see what he meant to her until he is gone. Ms. Maxwell, the richest woman in Westvale, offers him a place in her company, and he takes it.
