Back Off! I'm the True Heir

Serena is the heir to Avalon. She kept her rank to herself, went to Starfall, and married Leon Sterling, a noble whose family had come down in the world. She had believed for twenty years that Leon was the man who pulled her out of danger when she was a child. She put her contacts, her money and her family's backing behind him and moved him from the edge of the Starfall court to Crown Prince. On the day he was invested she found him with Lady Clarice. She asked for a divorce and he refused. The marriage carried his access to the Northern Legion, and he kept that and Clarice both. Serena took her support back piece by piece and told nobody she was doing it. His allies dropped away, his position went with them, and he knelt and asked her for the divorce himself. In the course of it she learned that the man who saved her twenty years ago was Gabriel, the captain of Avalon's knights, who had stood near her ever since and had never said so.
