Her Last Anniversary Gift

Nathan York keeps a mistress. He is in love with his wife, Laila Smith, and he keeps the other woman anyway, and Laila learns about it on the same day a doctor gives her a terminal cancer diagnosis and about a month to live. She takes a poison that works after seven days. Nathan is told about none of it. He spends that week putting together a party for their wedding anniversary, which falls on the seventh day. The poison starts to work on the day of the party. He thinks she is playing a joke and says so. She coughs blood and goes down, and the divorce agreement and the photographs of him with the other woman are on the floor around her.
