Built a Wall, Lost His Land

Dylan Shaw's wall went up across the path the whole lane uses, and two tons of fertilizer sat outside our gate with rain due. The fertilizer was bought on a loan and it was meant for the spring planting. My mother had been setting aside eggs from her own hens for half a month, and Dylan put his foot through them and said we were poor and full of ourselves. I went into the county town and got hold of the homestead title plan. His back garden ran over the line onto farmland that is protected from building. The enforcement office came out, pulled down the villa he had put up without a permit, and fined him 200,000, and the path was clear again.
