The Luck That Saved Me

Mianbao wants her father, whom she has never seen. Her mother is dead, and the village has decided the girl is a disaster and drives her out. She takes the family token and travels thousands of miles to the city where her father is the Governor, a warlord who has just taken another wife and still has no heir. She walks up to him and says, "Dad, it's me. Your real daughter." She knows metaphysics and fortune-telling, and luck sticks to her the way it is said to stick to a koi carp. Silver coins start rolling up to the front door, and there is ginseng to be dug on the hill behind the house. The Governor's Mansion had been on course to be wiped out, the whole family with it, and with her reading the signs it gets through one crisis after another. The household takes to calling her its little blessing, and her father keeps her at his side.
