Raina Quinn commanded armies. She was feared on battlefields a thousand years before the present day, and then she wakes up in the modern world, in the body of the true daughter of the wealthy Quinn family. The position has been filled while she was gone. Another young woman has been living as the Quinn heiress, and she has no intention of stepping aside for a stranger with an impossible story. The family sides with the girl they raised. They find Raina blunt, badly mannered and ignorant of how anything works, and they say so. Raina has never learned to be meek. She reads the household the way she would read an opposing camp, works out who is being paid by whom, and lets the impostor's arrangements come apart under their own weight in front of the relatives who dismissed her. Modern life she picks up in pieces, some of it awkwardly. The people who looked past her at the start start being careful around her instead, and the family standing she was born to comes back to her by degrees.
