The sister Anna comes home to is no relation of hers. The girl took Anna's place as the daughter of the house and plays the part better than Anna ever did. Anna's two older brothers have gone over to her and cannot stand Anna. Anna smiles at all of it and lets it pass. Anna is the family's real daughter, and she spent the last stretch of her life in a psychiatric hospital. From the day she is discharged she is obedient. She keeps her voice down and agrees with whatever she is told, and she says nothing about what the other girl has done. What came out of the hospital is not the daughter they think was treated, and she has started her own game with them. The family takes the quiet for recovery.
