Synopsis

The same day runs over and over. Every twenty-four hours the clock resets and it starts again, and the eighth of July never arrives. Augustine is the one inside it. He used the repeats to learn more than a hundred languages and to collect secrets he would have had no other way of getting at. Across a thousand years of the same day he worked on martial arts, driving, marksmanship and cooking until he had all of them. Then a girl he had not seen before turned up. The sun came up on a new day, the clock kept running, and Augustine went out into the city.
