Twenty-five years ago a doctor known as the Ghost Blade took a secret assignment to treat the head of state. Protecting the country meant giving up his own name, so Logan White walked out on his wife and daughter and disappeared into the work. The monarch recovers and Logan is honored as the national physician, admired throughout medicine. Everything at home has moved on without him. His wife died in the years he was gone, and his daughter Robin has spent most of her life hating the father who left, while idolizing the famous Ghost Blade she has only heard about. Logan tells her the two men are the same person. She does not believe him. John Rand, director of Mercy Hospital, has wanted Robin's Watsin Hospital for years, and he brings in the region's richest man to set up a wager around a head transplantation, an operation no one in the country but the Ghost Blade can perform. Logan volunteers for it to make up some of what he owes her. Robin has no faith in his hands, Rand interferes from the inside, and the patient's life comes down to the wire with Robin's reputation and her hospital riding on it.
