Elizabeth wakes up in a village bed in 1988 with a man beside her she has never seen. The husband she has in that life arranged the scene and is bringing people to witness it, which is how he means to come out of the divorce ahead. Elizabeth refuses to take the blame and marries the man in the bed, Evan Fields, a factory hand who has been set up along with her. Before that she was in the twenty-first century, where the man she was going to marry had been cheating on her. She was driving after finding out when she crashed. Evan turns out to be the director of the factory and has money behind him. Elizabeth finds she can move between the two centuries as she likes, and she uses it, carrying modern goods back to 1988 and selling them. She takes over the running of the household. She has begun weighing whether to stay in 1988 for good, for the sake of the husband she has there.
