An old woman in the queue at the Kindness Cafe was handed food that had gone off. Vivian Clark, who ran the place, told her to take what she was given. The old woman said the food was spoiled, and Vivian and a man she kept company with shouted her down and struck her. She was Fiona Bennett, chairman of the Bennett Group, which pays for the cafe, and she had come in without telling anyone. She said so and the room laughed. Vivian had been buying spoiled stock for the cafe and pocketing the difference, and taking from the donations as well. The man was her lover. She was also due to marry into the Winston family, and the engagement party was close. Fiona set about collecting the security footage and whatever else would hold up. Vivian went at her with a candlestick at the party. The footage covered the affair and an arrangement the two of them had about getting hold of the family's property, and it bore on whether Vivian's child was her fiancé's.
