Some people are born able to see a coloured haze around others and around objects, and what it shows cannot be hidden. Lila is six and has it. Her birth family, the Lins, abandoned her. In the mountains she finds Zhou Chengye, chairman of the Zhou group, bitten by a poisonous snake, and she saves him. The Zhous adopt her, so she gains a mother and father and two older brothers. She uses what she sees to get the Zhou family out of trouble more than once, and the Lins' schemes against them keep failing. There is someone inside the family working against them. He runs down the second brother, Zhou Chen, with a car. Lila sees through the plan behind it and protects them. The Lin grandfather admits what he did and apologises to her properly, and she forgives him. Then she sees a colour on her father that she has never seen before.
