Gemma Flint runs Flint Pharma. She is driving past a graduation crowd when she decides to go and register a marriage the same day with a man she has just watched get left in the street. That is Nigel Burns, who is standing there with a ring in his pocket. Nigel had spent years hauling bricks and taking whatever else the construction sites had going, and the money went to his girlfriend's tuition. He waited for her to finish, bought the ring, and came to propose on graduation day. She ended it in front of everyone and said she was engaged to his closest friend. Gemma saw the whole thing from the car. What she made of him was that he had been straight about all of it, and she took him to sign the papers that afternoon.
