There are mountain villages where a wife can be bought, brought in from the city by traffickers. Liang Jingqiu was one of them. Outside it she met a director named Jiang Qiqi, who asked her to act, and cast her as a mother in a drama. When it aired Liang Jingqiu became known across the country almost overnight, and people started calling her the nation's mother. She got back a sense that her life was worth something. Song Wenwu by then had a mistress. Liang Jingqiu stood up to the two of them and decided on a divorce. Song Yuanhang, once his mother was gone from the house, began to work out how she had lived all those years. He felt guilty about his part in it and started standing up for her. Through the acting work Liang Jingqiu also found her birth father.
