Ella, a witch, is certain that Alpha Elias led the slaughter of her clan, and she is wrong about that. The wolves who did it belong to the family of Theron, who wants Elias's throne. Elias holds her prisoner. She stabs him with a pair of silver shears, gets away, and agrees to marry Lucien, and Elias takes her back before the wedding. While she is pregnant she is tortured by a woman named Seren and left near death, and the necklace she wears, which holds her magic, brings her back and lets her escape. Elias does not find her again until years later, and by then she has their son, Remy. Then Theron, Seren's brother, takes Ella and the boy to use against Elias in his bid for the wolf throne.
