Blood And Herbs For A Dragon's Betrayal

One fruit could save a life at the height of the beast tide, and she went in among the beasts to bring it out. The brother took it from her hands and carried it to his sister, who was crying over a scratch on her face. "Her face can't be left with a scar," he said. The beasts closed over her and she died there. Before that she had been the strongest fighter in the Blazing Sun tribe. She found a pair of twin dragons and brought them both through. The brother was close to death, and she spent the tribe's best herbs on him, opened her wrist and cleaned his channels with her own blood, then taught him to fight. When the beast tide came the two of them were badly hurt. She opens her eyes at the same point in her life with all of it still in her memory. This time she wants nothing to do with the brother and puts her blood and her herbs into a blind merman. The brother then attaches himself to her and asks to come along. Whether he is carrying the first life in his head as well, or working at something else, she has no way to tell. The beast world around them is changing while this goes on.
