Ruby Shea got pregnant by Michel Gunnar after a night neither of them planned. Before the marriage could happen, her best friend Vivian Rogers took her place and married into the Gunnar family, and the money and the position that came with it. Ruby raised the boy, Charlie, on her own. Five years later she applied for a nanny job in Michel's household and the two of them came face to face again. Neither recognized the other. They went on misunderstanding each other, and the misunderstandings did real damage on both sides, before Michel worked out that Charlie was his son. By then most of it could not be undone.
