The orphanage where Shen Wu grew up is scheduled for demolition, and she is up against the property men over the site. He Yanxiu comes back into her life in the middle of that. He is the richest man in Cloud City now, and five years ago he was the man she walked out on. He was dying at the time. The head of his family would pay for the treatment on one condition, that she break it off and do it in the manner of a woman leaving a sick man for a rich one, so she played the scene out in front of him and let the story stand. Her name and her dancing went down with it, and she has carried the reputation since. He Yanxiu does not know any of that. He uses the orphanage against her to get her signature on a contract putting her at his disposal twenty-four hours a day, and he spends the arrangement settling accounts, one humiliation after another. She takes it for the sake of the building and the children in it. What he watches over those weeks is a woman who holds up under all of it, and he ends up drawn back to her against his own anger. Then what actually happened five years ago comes out. He goes against his family over it, and by that point Shen Wu is finding her way back to dancing.
