What Broke Wasn't Just the Vow

Bai Yan wants a marriage of the ordinary happy kind. Kang Jian courts her, answers her doubts until she decides to trust him, and they marry quickly. The marriage turns out to be a setup. He leaves her alone on their wedding night and is cold with her after that. His former girlfriend turns up and feeds lies into the gap between them. His mother carries an old grudge and works at Bai Yan constantly, at one point framing her for something she did not do. Kang Jian gets jealous over a male colleague of hers. Bai Yan keeps trying to be the wife she thinks she is supposed to be, and then she finds out that her own mother has been in a relationship with Kang Jian's father. At a family gathering Kang Jian insults her in front of everyone. She asks for a divorce. Kang Jian has fallen for her by then and blows hot and cold all the way through the process. Her childhood friend Shang Mingchuan steps in on her side. Bai Yan gradually becomes independent of the household.
