Daughter Against All Odds

Born into a family that favored sons over daughters, Qi Zhaodi is married off early for a dowry. Her husband is a good man but dies in a mining accident, leaving her alone with her frail mother-in-law, Xiuying. Determined to care for her mother-in-law, Zhaodi chooses to stay with her. However, her parents learn about the compensation money from the mining accident and plots to seize it for their son, Qi Yaozu, to use as a dowry. Despite their schemes, she refuses to give in. Meanwhile, she faces relentless harassment from the village bully, Liu Mang, who even conspires with her family to ruin her reputation. Ultimately, Zhaodi has Liu Mang imprisoned. With Yaozu's wedding imminent, the family turns their attention to forcing Zhaodi's younger sister, Qi Tingmei, into a marriage exchange with the mentally challenged brother of Yaozu's bride.
